About The Artist

Contemporary artist Stella Dunkley

I live and work from my studio in Christchurch, Dorset, on the South coast of England.  I’m a full time professional artist, I create innovative, original paintings, and I work in many different mediums including oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastels and mixed media

I would describe my style as Semi-Abstract and Impressionistic,  I’m influenced by the 19th century Impressionist painters such as Monet & Pissarro,  I have developed a unique recognizable style,  I choose subjects that I have an emotional connection with, transferring my emotional response into the painting, my choice of subject matter is varied, many aspects influence me :  quality of light, abstract shapes in the landscape, the changing skies, interesting shadows and reflections,  shimmering light over the sea, with my memories and imagination playing a fundamental part in the creation of my paintings

I paint many landscapes and seascapes based on the evening or morning views,  at these times there is a quality of light that I like to capture in the painting.  I also create Abstract paintings using colour and form to create an emotional response in the viewer, for some pieces raised textures are created to make the piece tactile and to create a 3D or sculptural effect

I use many different techniques in the creation of my art, which I have developed over the years, this makes my art stand out.  I like to switch between media as this helps to keep my ideas flowing,  I sometimes work on a idea and do a few similar pieces in different media, taking each work as far as it will go, that way I challenge myself, and discover new, and exciting ways to work, thinking “out of the box” and consistently creating new, inspiring, original work has helped me to create a distinctive style of my own, that is often emulated but cannot be duplicated

My art is currently available to purchase at my personal website StellaDunkleyart.co.uk, and you can find my work at other art galleries

  1. Hi Stella

I would like to commission some work from you, several paintings for my home in Australia. Any chance I can give you a bell to discuss?

  2. HI, I’m a student in the US writing a paper on famous British artists and I choose you. Could you tell me some more things about how you developed a love and interest for painting, for example? Thaks, Ella
